When the jewellery world needed an injection of life, in stepped Pomellato. Founded in 1967, the Italian brand shook up the diamond-heavy conservative establishment with fun, fashion-forward designs that – shock! horror! – women could and did buy for themselves. In the 1990s, the brand rebelled again, introducing semi-precious colourful gemstones into fine jewellery.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Pomellato has launched the Ritratto collection: 50 one-of-a-kind cocktail rings and pendants, each with a different rare stone cut in the portrait shape that is traditional in Indian jewellery. Some you’ll have heard of – gold-flecked electric-blue lapis lazuli, Mediterranean-hued turquoise – but others will be obscure to all but the most ardent geologist.

Pinky promise

Associated variously with con-men, academics, rappers and the landed gentry, pinky rings are now firmly back in the fashion fold – and their latest incarnation, courtesy of Boodles, might well be their most charming yet.

Appropriately, each of the intricately fashioned adornments in the collection features rose gold or pink diamonds, or both. Inspired by Indian and Arabic henna hand-painting, the asymmetric bands are designed to decorate the side of the little finger as well as the top, and adorned with feminine florals, butterflies and bows.
